3 Weeks in Texas

Image
Well, we’ve been in Texas for about 3 weeks already.    We are both in the swing of working.    Katy was going to be a fill in and now she’s a regular employee on the schedule.   Last week while at work, I noticed an Oregon plate one morning.    There was a guy outside the trailer with his back to me and I asked where they were from.    He said Corvallis and Bend and turned around.    I recognized him right away as a Lt from my old agency who is now retired.    We chatted for about ten minutes and talked about what we’ve both been up to.    Funny running into someone you know like that.   Work last week was pretty chill, no major fires to put out.    I woke up before my alarm 4 out of 5 days.    Yes, I said 5 days.    I miss 4 - 10’s or 4 on 4 off.    I know…cue the tiny violin.    We did get our first paychecks too.    First time we had m...

Working and Exploring

Last week we started work at the campground.  Honestly it’s a little weird getting up to an alarm for work again.  That’s what 13 months will do I guess.   There isn’t much to report from the new job.  I keep busy and get my steps in.  We also have some great co workers and supervisors.  We’ve also met some nice folks who are out traveling.  I think the work weeks are going to fly by.  We have some Egyptian Geese in the park, they are cool looking and fun to watch.  They are very territorial and like to fight.  I have a few pics of them to put on here.   Sunday was a day off and we headed out to Gruene and New Braunfels to wander around.  We had been there in February and wanted to go back.  It was pretty cold with the wind so we only stopped in a few shops.  We also filled up at Bucees for $2.92 a gallon, wahoo.   After Gruene, we headed out to La Contrada Winery.  We split a flight and a wood fired Pizza w...

Settled In

We are all settled in San Antonio.  We got in on the 30th and were still a little under the weather.  We didn’t hang out with anyone or go out exploring.  We stayed in our trailer for the most part and occasionally took the dogs for a lap around the park.  The crud lasted 10 days.   After feeling better we swung out for some BBQ at 225 Urban Smoke.  The brisket and spare ribs were good.  We then found a couple of cool neighborhoods on a little drive to Old Navy.  The Old Navy is in a shopping area that is very similar to the Old Mill which was pretty cool.   We had a quick stop at BRCC too.  We started work on Monday with paperwork, etc and I started work work yesterday.  Katy starts today.  We didn’t have much to report just hanging around the rig.  More to come.  I forgot to mention we had a beautiful sunset on New Years Day.
