Long Holiday Weekend

Image
Who are we kidding.  It’s always a long weekend for us at this point.  My old friend Tarquin occasionally texts and says “Happy Perpetual Saturday”.  Friday we picked up a Florida Christmas Tree and did a grocery shop.  We took a nice bike ride to the gulf in the afternoon.   On Saturday we took a few bike rides.  I went solo on the first ride and used my Pearl Izumi click in shoes for the first time in about 18 months.  The ride went well, it reminded me you don’t have to mash the pedals to get speed or be efficient.  It was my fastest ride to the gulf and back.  We ran the dogs at the dog park and then took a ride out to the gulf.   We did some meal prep later in the afternoon.  Burgers and a big beef stew.  The stew was a little different than the first time we made it, but it was still really good.  I smoked the burgers for 45 minutes and then finished them on high.   Yesterday we walked the dogs and then loaded t...

Manatees and Bikes

We don’t have much to report from Wednesday.  We followed up on a job prospect and hope to know if we are in on Tuesday.  We could both work at the same place which would make things easy with one vehicle.  After that stop we did some shopping and came back for a bike ride.  I ended up cleaning the site with a leaf blower before we left.   The ride out to the gulf and back was relaxing and we didn’t see a single person or snake.  Bonus.  We made an Asian chicken salad for dinner and later had drinks with Faith and Troy around the fire at their site.   Yesterday was Thanksgiving.  We did a load of laundry in the morning and had a quick lap with the dogs.  I completed my kettlebell swings.  I did 300 consecutive with the 45lber.  This was also the 6 month mark for doing them.  I haven’t missed a day since May 25th.  That’s over 55,000 KB swings.   We met Faith and Troy in town and launched our boats from Pete’s Mar...

Thanksgiving and ReCap

Image
Today is Thanksgiving and we have so many things to be thankful for.  Our adventure is one of them and it has been amazing in so many ways.  I’ve been saying for weeks that I would do a recap of our trip.  Seeing as we’ve been parked in Florida for 4 weeks already, now is a good time.   12/10/20 - 10/29/21 is 323 days.  That is how much time we spent on the road.  During that time we visited 30 states and traveled 30,726.5 miles.  We stayed in 110 different locations and got diesel 117 times.  We burned through 2221 gallons of fuel with an average cost of $3.02 a gallon.  Our average MPG was 13.8 as the kayaks and rocket box kept the economy low even with the trailer off.  Our lowest price was $2.09 in Alamogordo NM and the high was $3.83 in New England.   Our lodging expenses were more than expected at $9,435, but this can be done for way cheaper by staying at places longer and doing more boondocking.  Now that we have been to...
