Thanksgiving and ReCap
Today is Thanksgiving and we have so many things to be thankful for. Our adventure is one of them and it has been amazing in so many ways. I’ve been saying for weeks that I would do a recap of our trip. Seeing as we’ve been parked in Florida for 4 weeks already, now is a good time.
12/10/20 - 10/29/21 is 323 days. That is how much time we spent on the road. During that time we visited 30 states and traveled 30,726.5 miles. We stayed in 110 different locations and got diesel 117 times. We burned through 2221 gallons of fuel with an average cost of $3.02 a gallon. Our average MPG was 13.8 as the kayaks and rocket box kept the economy low even with the trailer off. Our lowest price was $2.09 in Alamogordo NM and the high was $3.83 in New England.
Our lodging expenses were more than expected at $9,435, but this can be done for way cheaper by staying at places longer and doing more boondocking. Now that we have been to a bunch of places and had a ton of experiences, I think we would be better at saving money in this category. The truck got a new set of tires on the road, new front brakes and we did regular services to keep it going. We also stayed on top of trailer maintenance. Crucial for lots of driving and different weather conditions.
People often ask what our favorite spot was. That is difficult to say. Every state is beautiful in its own right and there is not a state that we wouldn’t go back to. At this point, we’ve been to 46 of the 50 states together and plan on getting our last 4 on the way to Montana in April. If you have any questions about long term travel, let us know.
Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for following along with our journey. There’s more to come. Tom, Katy, Maggs and Duncan.
