Rodeo, Sunrise and Sunsets

Last week we went to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.  I think this is the biggest event in SA and it lasts 17 days.  We walked down there as it’s only a mile and we didn’t have to pay to park.   We didn’t buy tickets to the Brad Paisley concert or the pro rodeo, we walked the show barns, watched some kids race their horses for time in the arena and checked out the vendors.  We stopped and talked to a couple who were there with their grandson.  He shows sheep and lambs.  They told us as a 4th grader he has won enough money to pay for college or buy a house.  The 4H and FFA kids know the value of a dollar and have quite the work ethic.   We supported some small businesses at the expo center and I purchased a Resistol Rusty Nail cowboy hat.  The hat was “steam fit” for me by Don Reim who has been coming to the SA Rodeo for quite some time.  He has stayed at our campground for 37 years while working the rodeo.  I’ve wanted a hat f...

The 411 in SA

The past few weeks have seen some really cold temps, 2” of rain in 24 hours and some flooding.  I guess that was just a few days, not a few weeks.  We’ve been busy working 5 days a week, but have negotiated 4 on 3 off beginning on 2/28.   We have spent some time exploring the Pearl District.  We had Mr Diablo Tacos, they didn’t meet the hype.  The farmers market in the Pearl is a great stop on the weekend.  We also took a run out to Boerne (pronounced Bernie).  We visited the Black Rifle Coffee Company and Cibolo Creek Brewing which has good beer and food.  After that we did a wine tasting at Saint Tryphon.  Really good dry reds and whites.   During the flooding, I found quite a few fish trapped on the bike path after the water went down.  I got most of the bluegill back in the creek and didn’t worry about the goldfish and invasive “minnows”.  At the campground we’ve seen a bunch of wheels off the ground.  I’m not a class ...

Cold in Texas

My apologies on the delayed postings.  Again, there hasn’t been much to report.  I’ve been hanging out at the gate and walking the property 5 days a week and Katy is taking calls and making pizzas.   The weather pattern overall has been pretty chilly with a nice day or two sprinkled in.  In the past two weeks we’ve gone and had brunch at Snooze, hit up the Farmers Market at the Alamo Quarry, took some driving tours and hung out with co-workers.  Oops, I almost forgot that we visited another winery.  Dry Comal Creek.  Their wines were pretty good and I think we’d go back on a nicer day.   This past weekend we had one nice day and took a ride on the Mission Trail from Mission Espada up into the Bluestar Area of town.  We split a pretzel at the brewery and each had a drink before biking back.  The trail is great and we will be doing it again.  I need to stop along the way and take a few more pictures.   We also spent some time get...
