Hanging in The Flathead

We worked Friday and Saturday last week then hit our 3 days off.  I hope we stick with 4 on 3 off with the occasional half day in there.  Work continues to go good and a few more work campers have rolled in.   Sunday we did a 25 mile bike ride down to Pablo.  We found a really cool memorial for locals who have gone to war.  The detail in the granite is amazing.  We tried to tour the town but were chased by 5 loose dogs…time to leave.  When we got back to town we had a snack and a beer before coming back to the campground.  We watched most of our Sunday YouTube shows and proceeded to fall asleep before 9. Monday was a quick Costco run to Missoula.  We saw a large black bear on the way.  It was moving pretty fast along a grassy hillside near Arlee.  We found a few things we were looking for, had a quick lunch and a stop at Big Sky Brewery.  It’s a cool venue.  We had a flight and seltzer and headed back for Polson.   Ye...

Yesterday we had an amazing day in the Mission Valley.  I worked for an hour in the morning to assist with setting up a 5k course before we went to explore.  We headed south to St Ignatius and stopped at Stutzman’s Amish Country Store.   The store is really cute and we picked up a few things to include a roast beef on rye.  We split the sandwich on our way down to the Mission.  This place is amazing and worth the stop.  There are over 250 murals painted on the walls and ceilings which were painted by the mission cook.  The amount of work is unbelievable.  There are also two cabins on the property from 1854 and 1864.  You should check it out.   From Mission St Ignatius, we headed over to the National Bison Range.  This area is on the reservation and was set aside as a refuge for wild Bison among other animals.  We checked in and paid our $10 day use fee at the visitor center and checked out a few exhibits.  The cashier gave...

Working 9 to 5…

We’ve setttled in nicely here in Polson.  Work has been going great, busy and the days fly by.  We are getting things ready for busy season.  Other work campers are trickling in and we should have a solid schedule soon.  So far it’s been, 9-5, 9-6 and 11-7 shifts.  I’ve also worked 1/2 days on our days off to make firewood.  It’s quite a workout, I forgot what it’s like to chop a face cord of wood.   I was able to sneak into a blood drive last weekend put on by a local business.  It had been quite a while since I donated.  On Mother’s Day we were going to take a hike with the pups but didn’t realize we needed a tribal land access permit.  The hike was scrapped and we ended up driving around Flathead Lake.  The east side of the lake is beautiful and dotted with orchards.  We drove through heavy snow north of Big Fork.  We did a little shopping in Kalispell and then came back home.   Yesterday I split and bundled 56 bun...
