Dads Buck and Thanksgiving

The past few weeks have been quite a whirlwind.  We sat through the first Hurricane to make landfall in the US in the month of November in 40 years.  Nicole made landfall on the east coast of Florida as a Cat 1 and had 60 mph winds when it got to us.  The rain was pretty intense for 6 hours and the trailer rocked a bit.  We were covered by the neighbors rig and I had parked our truck within an inch of the trailer.  That helped.  I also started my new job at the hardware store.  My flights home were a little messed up and we had to drive to Tampa for me to get out.   We had about 30 veterans on our flight from the Korean War to the GWOT.  They were on their way to DC for Veterans Day ceremonies.  They gave us a send off in Tampa and a fire truck welcome in DC.  It was a neat group to be with on the flight.  I made the rest of my connections easily and made it to the UP on time.  The celebration of life for my dad went off w...

Spring forward, Fall Back.

 It’s hard to believe that we have been here for almost two weeks.  We moved spots in the park to a pavement pull through.  It feels a little less like boondocking with amenities.  We still have a few fire ants and my feet are tore up from working around the trailer.   I picked up a job at the local Ace.  I guess I’ll be a semi helpful hardware folk.  I start tomorrow and am pretty excited that things have fallen into place down here.  It’s also a quick walk to work.   As for exploration, I did a 25 mile bike ride to the Suwannee River Bridge.  The Nature Coast Trail is a great paved former rail line.  We’re going to be spending more time on it.  We also headed out to Trenton and looked around a bit.  We shopped at Trader Joe’s in Gainesville last weekend too.   This week we headed back to Cedar Key and wandered around.  We had lunch at Duncan’s on the water and later stopped into 83 West.  83 West is a grea...
