Out of Alaska

The drive from Alaska to Arizona began on Monday after getting up, dumping tanks and doing some laundry.    3,930-ish miles to go.    We said goodbye to Alex and Jackie, a quick goodbye and thank you to Gary and we were headed north.    The drive up to Anchorage was full of low clouds and rain.    We stopped to resupply at Walmart and Petsmart and then continued north.    I hoped to visit a high school friend in Wasilla, but he had other things to attend to.   We fueled up in Palmer and then drove the Glenn Hwy out to Matunuska Glacier.    We found a great paved turnout at MP 99.    We had a glacier view from the camper, thanks Milepost.    We had some dinner and watched some pre-downloaded movies.   Tuesday we woke up to nice weather and a great view.    As we headed further into the mountains, the weather turned and it was cold, foggy and rainy.    We did see quite a...

Seward and Kenai Fjords

  On to Seward.     Seward is about the only thing we didn’t check off our list during our summer time in AK.     We left Talkeetna and headed for Anchorage to resupply.     We got diesel and shopped at Fred Meyer, made a quick lunch in the parking lot and moved on.     The drive around Turnagin Arm was moody with low clouds and rain.    There were a few sneak peaks of the mountains and it was a great drive.    We stayed our first night at a National Forest Campground (free in the offseason) on Kenai Lake called Primrose.    It’s an amazing setting and one of the most picturesque lakes I’ve visited and fished.   We had been in contact with people we met on our drive up here.    Turns out they were right across the lake from us, working at Renfros.    I planned to help them work on their rig and the owner of the resort allowed us to stay for 4 nights for free.   We checked i...
