The only tourists in San Francisco

Yesterday we went to San Francisco to see the Golden Gate and a few things in the city.  We hit the Marin Headlands and the various gun batteries in that area from WWII.  My favorite was Battery Spencer because of the GG view.  The area of the Nike missile site was also pretty cool.

Downtown seemed like a ghost town.  We found parking right away is Ghirardelli Square by Fisherman’s Wharf and walked for a bit.  We then took a ride up Hyde St where the famous cable cars go.  We also navigated Lombard street which I do not recommend in a truck our size.

Took a drive through north beach “little Italy” where the Italian flag 🇮🇹 is on all the light poles.  Upon crossing into Chinatown it seemed like business as usual, people everywhere.  We then drove into the financial and business district and turned towards the painted ladies.  “These are not the house from Full House, but are in the opening credits.”  Going up that way, I think we drove through the SF version of skid row and two guys on the side of the street were quite entertained by us.  They kept pointing and laughing at the white F-250 with Skybox and two orange kayaks.

We stopped at the park across from the painted ladies and took a few pics.  After that we hit a few of the steeper streets in the city which approach a 30%grade.  With all that packed into a few hours, we hit the road for the Napa valley again.  We did bump into a bit of traffic getting back to the bridge.  2.5 miles=2 hours when you take 4 lanes down to one...right at the bridge.

Great day though.

  1. We loved the sights in San Francisco, and ate at Fisherman's Wharf. We took the street car on the hills, and that was scary enough for me.
