Amistad National Rec Area

Yesterday was mostly spent at the water.  It was in the low 80s.  It was breezy and a bit of a project to paddle, but a great day at the lake.  We started the day out with coffee and dog walks.  Then I went to Home Depot for some sawzall blades. We broke two the day before trying to rig the bike rack and I wanted to replace them.

Based on recommendations from the owners here and a NPS LE Ranger, we paddled at two locations.  The rock formations and side inlets are so cool to paddle around.  Our first stop was Rough Canyon.  It was a 20 mile drive from the trailer.  It was really windy so we only went a bit over a mile. There were turtles everywhere, must have seen two dozen.  We also met a couple from MN who gave us some tips on cheap camping.  They’ve been on the road since Sept.

Our second stop was at Governors Landing for a snack.  The water was about 200yds away and really rocky. A Ranger came by so I asked him what he thought.  He suggested the Spur 454.  It was on the way back towards the trailer so we decided to try that.  It was a cool spot and not too busy.  Windy again, but the rock formations were very nice.

After paddling, we got back and got the rigs ready for travel.  Loaded the boats, checked the bikes and one last load of laundry.  Leftovers for dinner and some YouTube.
