Arizona, you’ve been good to us.

Today we depart AZ after 20 days.  Yesterday we chatted with a couple we met here in the park.  They did what we are doing a few years ago so they had some tips for us.  We got back from their site a little late so we hit the road for our last adventure.

Thanks to Jamie Neal, we had lunch at Rollie’s Tacos on 12th St.  It was a 10/10 experience.  We then had Dutch Bros for the last time in what I feel will be a long time.  It was good, I (Tom) was once addicted to it, but overcame that addiction.

We then took a ride up the Catalina Highway to Mt Lemmon Ski Area.  The highway is known by many names:  Catalina Highway, Mt Lemmon Hwy/Rd, Gen Hitchcock Hwy and the Sky Island Scenic Byway.  It is 27 miles with a speed limit of 35 and it climbs over 4,000 feet in elevation.  What a ride, what a view.  It’s a must in my opinion.  You start in the hot desert and wind up in the snow.  Cactus to Pines and Aspen.  The town of Summerhaven at 8,200’ is also cute.

There was a sighting of someone from Iron Mountain, MI but they had a heavy foot and I couldn’t catch them to see who it was without breaking some laws.  We made it back to the trailer and of course walked the kids.  We watched the sunset and made dinner.  I also messed around with my phone camera in the dark to prepare for Carlsbad Caverns.  I still need some work.

Travel day and laundry today.

  1. If you get up to Albuquerque, I recommend driving up (or taking the tram) to Sandia Peak. The view of the surrounding area is incredible!

    1. The state is pretty shut down. We are skirting along the bottom of the state and headed to Texas. We have to come back another time.
