First day of the New Year...River Day
Yesterday was a great day in Ehrenberg. We may have started out a little slow, but got dinner on the smoker at 9. Almost 4lbs of pork roast with garlic, salt, pepper and cumin. After a two hour smoke, foil wrapped in the crock pot for 6 hours on low. Smoked pork carnitas tacos.
While the pork was cooking we noticed the river was really low for irrigation but it was coming back up. It was about 68* and not a cloud in the sky. We made a decision to go for it and loaded the truck up. Two other friends, Matt and Mo made the trip over from Tempe so Lola had 4 kayaks, two paddle boards and six people in the cab. Two vehicles would have been $30 for parking. Back to the California side for launching.
The float was great, it was still 68* when we got on the water at 1. With a few stops at some river beaches, we made the 6 mile float in about 3 hours. I even got back on a paddle board for a bit.
Dinner was really good with homemade guacamole and Pico de Gallo. We watched a little football and Matt and Mo went back to Tempe. After a long New Years Eve, Katy and I retreated to the trailer a little after 8.
The 4 of us in the last picture all used to work at BPD.
