National Monuments

Yesterday we took the dogs on a long walk and then explored the area monuments.  We went to Montezuma’s Castle which is a group of 7-800 year old cliff dwellings.  It was amazing to us that they could build on the side of a cliff like that.

We then went up to Montezuma Well.  This is a limestone sinkhole that has water flowing into it from the bottom and is tunneled out the side for irrigation.  Another neat spot.

The next and last stop was Tuzigoot monuments which was a hilltop dwelling complex from about 1,000 years ago.  The tribes of the area used to build on hilltops to avoid mosquitoes and floods.  They also tried to build with line of sight to the next village.  The little Copper town of Clarksdale nearby was neat too.
