Paddling New Years Eve

Well, 2021 is here.  What will it bring?  It’s too early to tell.  We spent New Years Eve in Blythe CA and Ehrenberg AZ.  We stocked up on some items at the local Albertsons for the a few days of dinner prep.

We walked the dogs quite a bit and started introducing them to staying in the trailer alone.  Two tries for almost 5 hours total yesterday and we had success.  That’s a big deal in the new home.

We loaded up the water craft and headed for the river around noon.  It was mostly clear and in the low to mid 60s and then it clouded over and got windy.  This happened as we were taking the boats off the truck.  Of course it cleared up right when we got back.  We did about 6 miles on the Colorado River and even though it was chilly, it was great.

As far as New Years festivities, we vowed we weren’t staying up late this time around.  We had a few bottles of wine with friends, some ribs on the Traveler and some good sides.  We made it to east coast midnight and kept going.  We even face timed our friends (who we have spent about 11 of the last 14 New Years with) for the west coast midnight, staying up until 0100 here.

Overall it was a great day.

  1. I was in Blythe, CA back in 1962. We stopped at a park to have breakfast after driving all night to avoid the heat. (No air conditioning)

    1. Hey mom, sorry I missed this. Not sure how it was then, but it’s small and kind of run down at this point. They grow a lot of cotton by flooding the fields from the Colorado River. It blows around the area and it looks like someone hit a bunch of furniture on the freeway.

    2. We actually encountered a woman and her two children living on a blanket at the park. Her husband was in jail. My Mom gave her some sweet rolls and juice so they could have breakfast. I always wondered what happened to them.
