The 5 P’s

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.  Yesterday we headed out to Tombstone AZ.  My morning routine was a little out of whack with some organizing projects in the trailer and truck.  We walked the dogs, got back, loaded up and hit the road.

It was a nice 90 minute drive to the town center.  We couldn’t find any shady spots to park the dogs so I pulled into the Tombstone Marshalls parking lot to talk to one of the guys.  Sounds like we had been in LE for a similar amount of time and he also took a sabbatical.  He told me we would be hard pressed to find shade for the dogs and also told us AZ is strict about leaving pets in the vehicle.  He said they’ve only had one time where someone broke a window.  We do have the canopy with pet screens and large sliding glass windows and water, but we decided to walk the dogs with us.  We parked up by the old high school and that is where I realized I didn’t have my pocketknife or my wallet with cash and cards.  😳. We had about a 1/4 tank left.  Thank god for a large tank and good gas mileage.  We lucked out that Katy had her CC with her.

We walked them all over town with us which hampered our ability to locate food and drink.  We both went into the original Bird Cage Theatre which was pretty cool.  There are visible bullet holes in the walls and ceiling and the stairway to the ladies of the night is open.  Our Marshall friend advised us the town of Tombstone burned up.  Half one year and half in the following years.  The bird cage was saved though.  He also advised us that Boot Hill Cemetery had been moved.  The original location was near the Circle K.  The towns people still think people are buried under the convenience store.

We found an outside patio to eat at and the food was good.  Puny John’s BBQ.  The dogs made our touring a bit of a project.  It was something between a rodeo and county fair, kinda fun, kinda not.  After lunch we took another walk with them through town.  We loaded them up in the truck and found a shady spot to put them for just a few minutes.  We then tried to have a drink at the Oriental (Wyatt Earps Place) but it was a cash bar and we were cashless.  We then went over to Doc Hollidays and were able to have a drink at the bar.  Some of the original walls were still up.

The drive back was nice and we walked the dogs when we got back.  We made some chicken mole which was good, watched KYD and of course we had to watch Tombstone.  I can’t believe it came out in 93’.  If you get out of your routine, slow down and go through your mental checklist before hitting the road.  Tom-
