Tucson Mountains
Yesterday we drove down to Tucson from Goodyear. We are staying at the Gilbert Ray County Park. It has electric at the sites, but that’s it. With 75’ of hose, I could probably fill our fresh tank. The setting here is amazing, we feel like we are right in the Sonoran desert. We are within a few miles of the West Saguaro National Park.
The vegetation here is unfriendly, meaning I don’t think it’s in your best interest to touch any of it. Duncan wound up with some thorns in an ear (we got them out) when he pulled his way over to a shrub that didn’t look bad. I also stepped on a dead branch that stuck to my shoe and cut the back of my other leg.
There’s apparently a lot of rodents out at night so about 9/10 people leave their hoods open over night with lights on in engine compartments and under rigs. The coyotes were also very active last night. It sounded like we were surrounded. They were howling in the distance at sunset last night too.
The sunset was very nice. We cooked some pork chops and hung out inside after dark as the temps dropped off quickly. Duncan and Maggie got a new bed and at first they weren’t too excited for it. After a while Duncan went for it and then Maggs slept in it all night.
I think we’re going to enjoy our time in this desert gem.
