Black Rifle, SA, Gruene and New Braunfels
Yesterday we were all over the place. We drove into town to have brunch near Black Rifle Coffee Company. The drive in took a bit of time, it was raining sideways and was 33* at one point. We had a river flowing down the road in front of us at a stoplight. Not sure that’s typical for SA this time of year.
The Magnolia Pancake Haus ended up not being all its cracked up to be. BRCC on the other hand was really cool. I got a new hat to replace my Tumalo Cider hat which is in disrepair. 3 bags of coffee for our travels and a cup to go. If you haven’t heard of BRCC, they are a veteran owned company who really support Vets and first responders. Last year they sent about 20lbs of coffee to our department when my buddy reached out to them.
We then took a ride out to New Braunfels based on the recommendations of Josh Spano and Robb and Nicki Wolf live out there. I hear them talking about how cool it is on their podcast quite often. Our first stop was camping world. They had our water filters, but not the vent cover we were hoping for. We then drove into downtown Gruene and stopped at a winery. We met a couple from Kent County MI and he had been a sheriffs deputy there for 29 years. The wine was OK.
We then stopped at Water 2 Wine in New Braunfels and did a tasting. Their wine was definitely better and we purchased one bottle of red. The lady who checked our tab recommended Naegelin’s Bakery and Henne Hardware as stops before we left. They are both the oldest respective stores of their kind in Texas. Both of the stores are on their second family owning them. The apple strudel was great and the recipe has been the same for over 100 years. Henne Hardware was really cool. It is set up the old fashioned way still with some modern tweaks.
The drive back was nearly and hour and a half, but traffic wasn’t too bad. Off to downtown SA today.
