Bike ride and travel day.

Saturday we slow rolled the morning.  Lots of coffee, a workout and gathering of laundry.  We had clothes, bedding and blankets.  Big Day!  We were able to get it in 3 washers and two dryers.  I think it cost about $18 total.

After laundry, we brought it and the kids back to the campground.  I loaded the bikes in the truck and we headed down to Fairhope again.  We biked the east shore trail down to the Grand Hotel.  It was originally opened in the 1800s.  We had a drink out on the patio at Bucky’s and enjoyed the view and people watching.  The drinks were good too.

We biked back up to the truck and the round trip was just under 7 miles.  It must be prom weekend because there were high school kids dressed up everywhere and getting their pics taken.  We had a pretty quiet evening and watched U571 after touring The Drum the other day.

Yesterday we packed up and got on the road exactly at 11.  The drive up to the Auburn area was pretty nice.  It was 3.5 hours and the last 60 miles was new road to us.  We stayed at Hodges Vineyards which is a Harvest Host in Camp Hill, AL.  We had some wine.  It’s all super sweet for tastes but we bought a bit of it.  We set up in a cool spot to run the dogs and play with the chuck-it.  I think we wore them out.

I also met one of the neighbors who is a veterinarian and he was a really nice guy.  He mentioned that Alabama has a stigma and it keeps people out of here and he is ok with that.  When I told him we were enjoying the state and that the topography reminds us of Upper Michigan he thought that was cool.

Off to Muscle Shoals today.
