Muscle Shoals, AL. WOW. #1.

Yesterday we got up to an Alarm.  This was the 3rd time on our trip.  It was about a 40 minute drive over to our first attraction.  FAME Recording Studio.  There is a documentary on Prime that details the area and the music to come from The Shoals.

Rick Hall, the founder of FAME passed several years ago.  One of his sons still runs the studio and his wife Linda was there to open things up.  While we were waiting in the lobby she talked about the picture of Steven Tyler in the famous doorway.  She also talked about the time he spent at the studio and their interactions.  It was really interesting.

We watched a short video as a group and then we got to see studio A and B.  In studio B there is an orange sound absorbing wall wrapped in burlap.  The end of it is worn from artists rubbing it.  Tyler said it had an energy to it and kept rubbing it between takes.  The room had a cedar smell to it and you could feel an energy to the place.  Maybe it’s just knowing who was been in the room and what came it out there.

There was a film crew and some recordings taking place in studio A.  They wouldn’t let us know who was in there but we were able to check it out.  There was some mojo in this room too.  Aretha Franklin was in there after leaving Columbia records and most of the equipment in there is original.

Our tour guide was 28 and has been working at FAME for 7 years.  He is blending old school with new school and has been involved with quite a few records.  He had some great stories and plays some instruments really well.

We have a few more spots to talk about.
