Natchitoches. Pronounced Nac-a-tish
Yesterday we explored the area. Our first stop was Oakland Plantation which is a National Historic Site. It was an interesting place to walk around and we were allowed to go into most of the buildings.
We were even allowed in the main house. The family still lives in the area and the house was lived in until 1998. There are some amazing trees on the grounds too.
After the plantation we headed into town and found a spot on Front street. The downtown is super cute and we were told it’s like a small version of New Orleans. We had lunch and Lasyone’s. Pronounced Lassie-ons. The meat pies were pretty good. So was the dirty rice and carrot soufflé. We walked the main route and checked out some shops. My favorite was the Kaffie-Frederick Inc General Mercantile. It is the oldest hardware store in Louisiana. We also visited the oldest hardware store in Texas.
We putzed a bit more around town and came back to the campground. We played some Yahtzee and one of us did Okay with the Louisiana scratch it lottery tickets.
