Tactical Retreat #2.
We left northern Alabama on Wednesday morning to avoid severe storms. The town next to our campground was looking at 8” of rain. We rolled down to CHEAHA State Park. The park is east of Birmingham on the 20. We drove past Talladega Super Speedway and it is huge. Really impressive.
The campground is to the south of Anniston and is Alabama’s highest point. The first night we got a few walks in and had a great sunset. Yesterday we knew we were going to be in for some weather. Long story short we dodged a bullet with the weather. We had T storms, but we were able to get out and walk a bit. 7 ish miles. We had lots of wind, some good rain a bit of thunder and lightning. I think our elevation helped us avoid tornadoes.
Today we had a good hike to Bald Rock and walked the campground a bit. Doing some laundry and moving south tomorrow. Well, the “Washereria” didn’t have a spin cycle so we are in Oxford doing laundry 30 minutes away.
