Tactical Retreat
Yesterday was a good day. We stopped by a covered bridge which we walked out and back. We didn’t spend too much time in the park as it was pouring. We then took a ride up to Rocket City USA. Huntsville AL. It was raining pretty good so we didn’t do the space museum. We did a good amount of 4 wheel touring. Costco, UPS Store, Duluth Trading Company (I had to see what all the fuss was with their boxers), Starbucks (for only the second time in months) and a run over to Decatur.
We knew there was some weather coming and it poured for a few hours overnight. Poured like a cow peeing on a flat rock as one of my friends would say. Kept me up for a few hours. We woke up to level 4 storm warnings. Strong storms, 60-80mph winds, up to two inch hail and likely tornado activity. The forecast is so serious, they cancelled schools for Wednesday.
What does that mean when you live in your 20’ home and pull it around with you? You make some tactical decisions to improve your situation. For us, we hitched up and drove 6 hours south to Spanish Fort on the coast. We are now in a level two risk for storms. This is exponentially less threat than where we were.
We got down to Meaher State Park after a little issue with the Alabama state parks website. We accidentally booked three nights in the wrong park with a glitch in the system. We lucked out and got a spot here. Also looks like we’ll be able to stay for a few days with a move in the park. Glad to be out of Northern Alabama for now. We also received some Southern Hospitality from a couple who gave us some welcome pudding shots. Strawberry Cheesecake and they were delicious. Maggie also took two treats from the gentleman. Big steps.
