Back to Inland Florida

Friday we drove up to Pompano Beach from Marathon.  We stopped on Tavernier Key and bought some Key Lime Pie for dessert.  It was our favorite of the 3 we tried.  The drive up was a little hectic around the Miami area, we decided to take the Turnpike which is a toll road.  We weren’t sure how it works, but I think we’ll be receiving a bill for every 10 miles on the road.  🤦‍♂️.  It wasn’t worth it as there was a ton of construction and rough roads.

When we got to Breezy Hill in Pompano it was a ghost town of run down trailers.  Lots of “boarded up tiny homes” with a few travel trailers mixed in.  We let the dogs out to pee and decided not to stay.  It definitely didn’t look like an RV resort.  Thousand trails needs to do some work on this place.

We ended up driving up to Boynton Beach and staying at a Harvest Host, Bedner’s Farm.  The spot was in the overflow parking and there was plenty of room.  The market there is great.  Lots of fresh food and meats available.  We ended up grocery shopping twice.

On a side note, 3.5 hours of driving and our Stromberg Carlson bike rack lost 3 tie down straps.  Not impressed.

Yesterday we drove up to Okeechobee FL on the north side of Lake Okeechobee.  The drive was only an hour and a half, but it was some of the roughest roads we have traveled.  The Florida state route 700 was the worst.  We slowed to 35 in a 55 and had our flashers on.  The cool thing about that stretch was the 100s of gators in the canal along the road.  The bike rack fell apart again.  We lost another strap and the paint/weld on one of the arms started to crack.  This happened in about 5 hours of driving.

The Okeechobee KOA is really nice.  It was hot and humid so we played games in the shade, took the bike rack apart for return and did laundry.
