HHI

Yesterday we headed over to Hilton Head Island.  We made a quick detour at the Tuesday Farmers Market in the park.  We picked up some berries, pickles, bacon and a small cloth bag. It was a nice little market.  After that stop it was off to the Harbour Town Lighthouse.

Little did we know it is in the Sea Pines area of the island which I guess is private.  It is $9/day cash for a parking pass and we were denied entry because of the kayaks on the roof.  We were told to go drop them off where we were staying and come back.  I explained our situation (an hour drive one way) and we were still asked to turn around.  We completed a circle and came back to ask if we could bike in.  That’s not allowed either.  We were told our only option would be to park and Uber in.  (I later looked at the rules and saw nothing about kayaks on vehicles in Sea Pines).

We headed over to the beach which was really nice and hit the Tiki Hut for lunch.  The setting was great and I’m sure the sugary drinks were good...they looked good.  The service was sub-par and the food needs some work.  Maybe if a person was all buzzed up it would be better.  Back to the beach...  The water was warm and the area wasn’t really busy which was nice.  The sand is hard packed near the water and would’ve made for a good bike ride.

We did a little more driving around and found $2.56 diesel so we filled up.  After getting back, we walked the kids some more and had our crock pot ribs.  They turned out great after putting them under the broiler.  There is a couple here from Oregon City who also have a new Lance so I chatted with them for a bit.  They have been on the road since Christmas and are headed back to Oregon in October.
