Key West Round 2
We got up to an alarm and headed back to Key West. The weather was quite a bit better than it was on Monday. We had received several recommendations on places to go, but didn’t get to all of them.
I dropped Katy off and Blue Heaven Restaurant and sought out parking. I found a good and free spot down near the Key West PD Bicycle substation. It was about 3 blocks away. We had an hour wait to get a table and went across the street to the cash bar and had a mimosa. We shared a table with two Physicians Assistants from Iowa. They were down for a quick vacation and were very nice.
The food at BH was very good. I had banana and pineapple pancakes with bacon and Katy had the bacon lobster tomato Benedict. We both enjoyed our food and the chickens roaming the place.
After BH, we walked down to Mallory Square. It was pretty quiet down there. The temp in town was 88 and had high humidity. We swung into Sloppy Joe’s bar which was really cool. Hemingway (Papa) used to hang out there and there is quite a bit of military history in there too. The sloppy Rita was really good. When we got there, we walked right in, when we left, there were 50 people waiting to get in.
We wandered around Duval St for a bit and then headed down to the Green Parrot near mile marker 0. We met a nice couple there who have been traveling since last May. They were with her parents in the keys. Katy later told me they’ve been traveling on unemployment for their time on the road and that left a bad taste in my mouth.
We got back up to the campsite around 3:30 and hung out for the rest of the day. I was soaking my feet in the swim area and a 4-5’ Nurse Shark came through. We made a dish with Okra and both decided we didn’t like it. The sunset was pretty and we got some new neighbors. We chatted with them until almost 9pm.
