Key West
Yesterday we drove down to Key West. We had planned to do a bunch of exploring after Katy’s hair appointment but we had thunderstorms pretty much all night and morning. Maggie was a wreck so we thought it best to not leave her in the trailer. We loaded them up and hit the road at 8:40.
It was still really windy when we left with a bit of rain.

With the speed limit averaging 45, it almost took us an hour and twenty minutes to get down there. The cross wind on the 7 mile bridge was no joke and both of us were glad we weren’t towing the trailer. Power was out on Key West when we arrived and I dropped Katy off right at 10. I parked a block off of Duval and about 4 blocks from the southernmost point. I walked down there but didn’t get too close to the buoy as waves were crashing over and flooding the roads. I also heard some people talking about paying cash for coffee so I went back to the truck for coffee money.
At about 10:30 the power came back on. I walked all over around the southernmost point, down past the courthouse, the green parrot, Hemingways House and to mile marker 0 on US1. It was about 11:30 and I started to make my way back. I had picked up a coffee from the Courthouse Deli. Cafe con Leche with no sugar. The guy before me had 3 packets in a smaller cup. Wow. I’m not sure if it still tasted like coffee. I also walked around the lighthouse. Hemingway House was really busy at this time and the sun was starting to come out. People were really flowing into town and it was busy.
I walked back to the truck and had a bit of time left on my parking pass so I did some posts and chatted with my mom. When my time ran out I drove the truck all over town. Key West is not made for an F250, even with the mirrors folded in. You’d be best in nothing bigger than a Prius.
Katy was done at 1:15. Her hairdresser was 30 minutes late. The salon was Amri and Katy wasn’t impressed. The prices had a + after them and apparently there was a bunch of pluses because it was way more than advertised. I think that would be OK if you were happy with the finished product.
We ended up driving all the way back up here to have a late lunch and hang outside with the dogs. The wind had switched directions and the waves were splashing over our break wall. We also couldn’t put our awning out. The temp and humidity were pretty oppressive so we set up behind the neighbors rig to get out of the sun for a bit.
The helicopters from NAS Key West were busy all afternoon and I got a few pics of them going by. We were treated to a nice sunset and had al pastor taco salads. I slept way better last night with the AC on too.
