Sarasota Bay
Yesterday we headed back to Sarasota and kayaked on the bay. It looked a little choppy so we tried to find a different launch by Lido Key. No luck there so we returned to our first spot which was in a park on the west side of the bay bridge.
We paddled about a mile total and didn’t get too far out. It was pretty choppy and windy. We tried to get over to the big bridge to get some pictures or I tried to get some pictures after Katy turned around. When waves hit break walls vs a beach they reverberate and come back out. This back and forth wave action coupled with boat wakes almost sunk me while trying to get the “shot”. At one point, I made plans on where I would swim to when the kayak went down. I paddled like hell and was able to get back, but that was a very very close call. And it was for a picture. Dumb. Lucky.
We beached the boats at the park and brought them up to the rinse station. I cleaned them and the paddles off and got them secured in the truck. We took a walk down the beach to the break wall under the bridge and saw a capsized boat. It had been there a while. The waves by the break wall were pretty darn big, I had no business being down there.
On a better note, we went to Marina Jacks and had a margarita and some really good blackened Mahi tacos. The boats in the marina were amazing. When we got back we started packing for drive day. Headed to Miami then on to the Keys.
