Blue Ridge Parkway

Yesterday we walked the dogs and had another good workout.  We headed north to the town of Blowing Rock and took a left on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  What a nice drive.  The top speed on the Parkway is 45.  There were a few people pedaling the pavement and I realized I would like to bike the length of it someday.

We stopped at several overlooks and can only imagine what this place looks like in the fall.  We made our way down to Linville and walked the river to the series of falls.  It was a nice couple mile round trip.  The far overlook, Erwins, is the furthest and least impressive in my opinion, but worth the walk.  There are quite a few stairs, wooden and rocks.

On the way out, we saw a large black snake, maybe 6’ long.  I went down the trail to get it out of our way.  I think it was a black racer again.  Not poisonous.  On a side note, we were told there are a few Water Moccasins in the creek behind our trailer.  I’ll stay out of it.

On the way back, we stopped at the Blowing Rock Ale House.  It’s a nice little stop in the heart of Blowing Rock.  We’ll go back and explore there today.
