Graveyard of the Atlantic

Yesterday we visited the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum.  It’s a short drive down to Hatteras Island.  On the way down, the lines at the Shell station were hundreds of yards long in each direction.  Cars were bumper to bumper.  There’s light coverage on the pipeline fiasco, but it’s real in NC.

The museum was pretty cool, lots of history and maritime artifacts.  We spent about an hour there and could’ve stayed a bit longer.  After the museum, we hit the beach for a few minutes.  Lots of shells, big shells too.  They are really thick, not sure what kind of clams they are.  We also checked out the shops at Hatteras Harbor.  It’s a cool little area, but there are 3-4 places that are very similar.

I was a little nervous about the fuel situation as we are headed to Virginia Beach and towing a 6,000 trailer.  We got in line at the Shell and waited about 40 minutes to top off our diesel.  There are several stations down here and they were set to all run out of gas by end of day.  The Shell and Pure in Buxton were out.  The Shell we were at was out of regular.  We’ll see how long this s#!¥ show lasts.

We then snagged some late lunch at Diamond Shoals restaurant.  I had the grouper basket which was really good and Katy had a crab cake.  Dessert was had at Eddy’s Custard.  The brownie banana cone was really good.

The afternoon was completed with two loads of laundry and a haircut.  Apparently the sun still sneaks through mesh hats...
