Kayaking Rudee
Yesterday we did some grocery shopping at Teeter again. We put those away and got the kayaks down. There’s a nice boat ramp near the Virginia Aquarium so we drove down there and put our boats in. It was a little breezy but it wasn’t really wavy. We had a nice paddle out towards VA Beach. We crossed under the bridge and looked out to sea. The water wasn’t too wavy here either, but you could feel the tides and a bit of swell. I think it could get real messy in there if it was the wrong day. There’s no beach to absorb the waves.
We paddled back and checked out some boats along the way. I realized I would like a Grady White 370 Express sometime. Not going to happen due to budgetary constraints. Overall we went a bit over two miles and it was a great paddle.
After getting back we cleaned a bit and reorganized the back storage of Sis. Cleaned our grill, oven and smoker and then did some burgers and pork on the smoker. They both turned out really well. I chatted with Oregon Donor JS for a bit and then we just hung out around the trailer.
The airspace around the park really livened up after 7pm. There had been a bit of F18 traffic throughout the day, but not too much and there was a helicopter here and there prior to 7. At 7, there was a bunch of “little birds” MH6’s flying low around the area, mostly towards Damn Neck with guys hanging out the sides.
After doing some googling, I learned that the 160th SOAR had been here last week doing some daylight training with Team Redacted. I wonder if it was them out training some night evolutions as helicopters were going by a few times between 10 and 0300. Thanks to those who are out there getting after it and keeping us safe.
