Out of Gas
Yesterday was really windy. Sustained winds at 25 and gusting to 40. We got the trailer hooked up and rolled out at about 10:30 for our two hour ride north. As we were leaving the park, we met a couple who waved us down. She was from SD and he was originally from the Calumet area. She is a traveling RN and he watches the kids. They left the Seattle area a month ago and are traveling for a bit before moving to Wyoming. It was nice chatting with them. They may be at Tourist Park in August.
We drove north slowly, 45-55 with the strong wind. A quick stop at the Bodie (Body) Island lighthouse and a climb to the top was in order. There are 8 flights of stairs and you can only have one person on the flight at once. I was the 3rd person up. The people before me weren’t good at listening on one person at a time. I stepped out and immediately took my hat off. It was a tad breezy and rainy. The view would be amazing on a clear day.
I stepped back in for a second and one of the women who headed up in front of me was pinned back in a corner and was scared. Her hat almost blew away and the heights were getting to her. Her partner came and they game planned their way down (together again). I offered a suggestion to get past the part with no rail and was told to mind my business. They also yelled at a group coming up. I guess the stress really got to them. If you’re afraid of heights, you may want to pass on this one.
After we left the light, we stopped at Biscuits and Porn. They were done with breakfast but we were able to get lunch. It was pretty good and was recommended by a fellow traveler. I’m bummed we missed breakfast. Duck donuts was also closed.
We received a call from a fellow Michigander and had a nice chat. We pulled into our harvest host, Morris Farm which is really nice. We picked up a few things from the store and played games in the rig as it was raining. A lady pulled in with Oregon plates and we spent over an hour chatting with her and her dog at sunset. They live in Richmond VA, but her son lives in Bend, in Tetherow and they are having and ADU built there. She was really nice and invited us to come and see them when we are up that way. It was a good day all around.
