16th State
Yesterday was a pretty long drive day for us. I think I’ve said it before, we try to keep things under 3 hours. We got up pretty early, did a quick workout, walked the kids and finished the packing process. One of our neighbors moved his truck to make our escape a smooth process. We were out of the park by 9:35. I know, checkout was 1, but we had to get moving. 330 miles.
We started out on the Bluegrass Parkway to Lexington. What a great road, not heavily traveled and lots of room. We skirted around Lexington and then got on the I-64 for basically the rest of the trip. There was quite a bit of road construction in West Virginia and some of it was a pretty tight drive. We paid $10 in tolls to save an hour-ish of driving.
Katy and I were talking, Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia are beautiful. The roadsides are clean for the most part and we saw a few crews doing cleanup. I think I saw a sign along the 64 that said the max fine for littering is $25k, that’ll keep ya from tossing a cup out the window. It’ll also keep your state looking nice. I think the fines in TN and Kentucky were $3k. Definitely nice states, still a little humid.
We got to our campground around 3:30 and it had just rained. It was muggy but we all needed to stretch our legs so we went for a 3 mile walk. We came back and cooked up some veggies, nuked the pork chops and watched our favorite YouTube families. Keep Your Daydream, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Kara and Nate.
