Jack Daniel’s, Yes Please.

Yesterday we took a short drive to Lynchburg to visit the town and house of the most popular and recognized Whiskey on the planet.  We drove by a few barrel houses on the way up and later learned they hold up to 60,000 barrels.  Barrels hold up to 200 bottles.  Hard to wrap your head around that.

We arrived at the visitor center and found the bus and RV parking which is across the street.  It’s a short walk and they also have regular buses that go back and forth.  We walked over and got checked in for our Angels Share Tour.  The Angels Share is the whiskey that evaporates or escapes the barrel.

I walked around in the visitor center and bottle shop before our tour.  Lots of history and information on Mr. Jack and the company.  Our tour was great, Bob was a great guide.  He walked us through the entire process.  There are a few spots where they ask you not to take photos.  We had a few “birds” in our group who must have a hearing or a following the rules problem as they snapped photos anyway.

We saw the cave spring where the iron free water comes from and Mr Jack’s office which is the original building from the 1800’s.  There is so much to talk about with the tour that we could go on for a long time.  You’ll have to try the tour to learn more about the process.  We ended in the barrel house for a tasting.  We had 5 tastes, up to 131 proof Barrel strength, it was surprisingly smooth with a little burn.  We had some BBQ in the old town square at Barrelhouse BBQ.  We split a brisket sandwich which was simple and really good.

We then got on the road to Hampshire TN to stay at another Harvest Host.  Amber Falls Winery is in a beautiful spot.  The wines were really good and we were able to park right near the vines.  We cooked some steaks and hung outside until dark.  We also threw the ball for the dogs.  They had a good time.
