Louisville
Yesterday we walked and ran the dogs a bit before heading out. We stopped at the Louisville Slugger factory and museum. It was a cool stop although we didn’t go on a museum tour. We checked out the store and the signature plates.
After the store, we walked east and checked the city out in the bourbon district. We walked a couple of miles. The city was clean and really quiet. Lots of places operating on reduced hours and lots of places totally closed from Covid and lack of workers. We stopped in Angels Envy and they were done with tastings for the day.
We then walked back to the truck and upped our parking meter. The Bourbon Trail museum was right next to the truck so we popped in there to check it out. I bought a few sample bottles to try before making the commitment on a big one. Calumet Farms and New Riff, they were good over ice. Peerless bourbon was just down the road, but they were full on their next tastings.
We started our drive south but made a detour at Churchill Downs. It is way bigger than I imagined. Who knows, we may go back to the city this weekend and may do a tour. We drove over towards Fort Knox and stopped at Boundary Oak Distillery. They are named after the large oak from Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home. They have some of the tree at the distillery. They have some really good products and are Harvest Hosts as well.
We picked up a few souvenirs from our travels and had a nice Oak fire last night.
