Not the Kentucky Derby

Well, Friday night I was looking for things to do for Saturday.  I knew we were headed back to Louisville to hit Costco as Katy’s glasses needed to be repaired.  I looked at the Churchill Downs museum and saw there was actually some horse racing taking place.  It was Stephen Foster Day and the last day of the season.

I pitched the idea to Katy and she agreed to go.  I ordered the $12 tickets which were under cover so we would be out of the sun.  We arrived and walked the “green mile” to our seats.  This is part of the old Churchill Downs.  We picked up a Derby Julep and Woodford Spire and found our seats.  We then upgraded as there was a large beam blocking our view and it wasn’t busy.  It was fun people watching too, there are some people who take it over the top.  I didn’t get any good pics of that.

Of the 3 races that we “bet” on, I would’ve picked one winner.  The races were fun to watch and we hung around for 4 of them.  There’s about 30 minutes between the start of each race.  We have a solid betting system, we just go with the names we like.  It wouldn’t be a solid investment system.

After catching the 4 races at one of the most famous tracks, we went grocery shopping.  Whole Paycheck, Trader Joe’s and then a 40 minute ride back to the Elizabethtown Crossroads Campground.  This has been a great spot and we would recommend staying here.  It’s nice and centrally located to do all sorts of things.

We made mini meatloafs or meat muffins and pork chops on the Country Smokers Traveler.  1 hour smoke and 30 minutes at 400.  I took the pork off at 20.  They turned out great.  We then started to pack for our travel day.
