The Mountains Called Again

Sunday was a pretty relaxing day.  I took a drive to the Sportsman’s Warehouse to buy some smoker pellets.  I got the last bag of Competition Blend.  I also wandered around in there for a bit.  There was more ammo in there than anywhere I’ve seen in the past six months.  The prices were out of this world too.  I also picked up a new pair of trail shoes as I almost slipped and fell at Blowing Rock with no tread left.

We smoked a turkey breast, had a fire, played a ton of Yahtzee and had a great afternoon/evening.

Yesterday was a day of reflection and thanks.  We took a long ride into the mountains again, but in a different location.  We did another 30 or so miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway and made it to the highest point east of the Mississippi.  MT Mitchell State Park is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area and it’s a clear day.  Apparently it had been cloudy and rainy the three days prior to us going up there.  Lucky!

There were quite a few people on the Parkway and the summit was pretty busy.  It was a nice afternoon trip though.  We made some ribs when we got back, played some games and had a fire.  I also had a good talk with a friend while out under the stars.  We “shared” a whiskey even though California and NC are a ways apart.

Today we are leaving the Asheville East KOA and headed for South Carolina again for a few more days.
