Leland and a road trip
Thursday we took a drive over to Leland and the Historic Fishtown. It was a cool little place and we got there just in time to hit the farmers market. After the market we put our meat and berries in the truck before exploring town. We checked out a few shops on the main road and talked to a guy on a recumbent bike. He and his wife founded the City Park. (We later learned it was in 87 or 88.).
Fishtown is a cool little spot where Lake Leelenaw pours into Lake Michigan. It is still a working fishery and there aren’t many of them left in that sense (netting and processing) right from the same spot. With rising water levels, some of the buildings have had to be raised. It’s definitely worth checking out Fishtown and it’s shops.
On the way back we stopped at Sutton’s Bay and walked around there too. We checked out a few shops and then ate at the VI Grill. The food was good, I had the Perch.
Back at the campground we packed up a little bit for the long drive ahead. Yesterday we hit the road at about 10 for the UP. We had a pretty uneventful drive with a few stops along the way. We arrived at about 6:05, had some dinner and hung out. This is the first time we’ve been inside a home since February. We still stayed in our “home” though. Posts may be a little less frequent these next few weeks depending on where we are.
