Ludington

Yesterday we drove 2.5 hours north up to Ludington.  Ludington is the port for the SS Badger, the Ferry that brings people and automobiles across Lake Michigan.  The drive up was pretty good, except for one little incident on the 31.

We were in the right lane with a car and truck to our left in the fast lane.  We were approaching a light that turned yellow and I didn’t think we were going to stop with the trailer so I kept my speed.  The car was just in front of us and the F150 was right alongside our rig.  Well, the car must’ve saw the light late and panicked.  They dynamited their brakes and the truck was following way to close.  He tried to swerve around the car into our lane in the middle of the intersection.  I jammed on the brakes and thankfully had a few extra feet of wiggle room.  We collectively caught our breath and didn’t go down the lane of road rage.  I’m curious if people have forgotten about following distance?  It was a simple concept taught in drivers ed…

Back to Ludington, we got set up at our first Boondockers Welcome spot and headed out to explore.  We took a drive up to the state park and also walked the dogs in the city park.  We brought the dogs back and turned the AC on for them.  It was about a mile walk to the center of downtown.  We checked out the shops, got coffee and went to the farmers market.

We then decided to have dinner and drinks at Ludington Bay Brewing.  The food and beer were good.  It’s a nice setting and the staff were hustling.  Definitely worth a stop if you are here.
