9/11
Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. I still remember being at NMU in a private study room off the library. I stepped out and the library was pretty much empty. I walked downstairs and there were a ton of people around the TV. We watched the second plane hit and the towers come down.
We went to Watkins Glen State Park and did an amazing hike. Being in NY state on the anniversary felt a little weird, being close to NYC. I’ve been to Ground Zero, but this still felt different. The finger lakes region is very patriotic and there were flags all over the place, it was nice to see.
The hike was amazing and the gorge is a 3 mile round trip with about 850 stairs. So worth it with the narrow rock formations and the waterfalls. There were quite a few people with it being the weekend, but only a few crowded spots.
After the hike we had lunch at the marina and then stopped at a few wineries on the way back. There’s a falls in here that is not from Watkins, it is Hector Falls on the south east side of the lake. Domaine LeSurre was our second winery and they had some really nice choices.
