Letchworth State Park. #1
Yesterday we took a ride up to Letchworth State Park. It was voted the #1 state park in the US. It’s also known as the Grand Canyon of the east. It’s over 500’ deep in some areas with impressive rock walls.
We entered at the southern point which is close to upper, middle and lower falls. The first parking lot requires a lot of steps to get down to see the falls. I recommend going to the second parking area unless you want to get your stairs in. This park is really big, and we’ll kept. The rock formations the falls are impressive.
We were stopped at a viewpoint and a family came by us with their 5th wheel. I didn’t do a bike count, but noticed their rack was bouncing quite a bit. We didn’t think much of it as we’ve had bike rack issues before. Later in our tour, we saw a bike laying on the opposite side of the road from the direction we were headed and no one was around. We saw
The same family drive by us at another overlook and noticed they had 3 bikes with one empty spot. We caught them at the next stop and I pulled up alongside them.
I opened the conversation with, “Hi, did you have 4 bikes on your rack?” His eyes got really big and he said yeah. I told him there was a bike in the road a few miles back. He got out of the truck to walk back so I backed up. His rack had broken and lost a bike. It had also bounced enough that one of the handlebars put a hole in the wall of the 5th wheel. It didn’t look like it had been bouncing that bad when we saw it. I felt bad for them. If you happen to see a situation like this, it may be best to say something right away.
After our drive back, we did a large washer load of laundry then hung out at our boondocking spot for the night.
