Oh - Hi - Oh

Saturday we checked out at noon and headed over to the dumps station.  There were two trailers already there so we pulled in between them.  Surprisingly, both of them had used the “yellow” water station and filled their fresh water tanks with non-potable water.  One of the couples was even spraying the water at each other.  Not sure how good that is for you.

We had a pretty quick drive over to Port Clinton/Catawba Island Ohio.  We got to the state park at 2pm with a 3pm check in which usually isn’t a problem.  Saturday it was.  We were asked to pull ahead and wait with the truck and they would let us know when the spot was ready.  After 30 minutes and 7 more trailers, they let us in.  The park is nice and well maintained, but holy packed.  You can definitely notice it’s a holiday weekend.  The spaces seem tighter and you have to keep your head on a swivel to not run over kids on bikes and scooters.

We got situated, walked the dogs and chatted with our neighbors who recommended a nearby winery.  We made sure the dogs were good and headed out to explore.  We found some spendy diesel and then drove to the end of Catawba to see where the ferry takes off.  We hit up a cute little farm stand, bakery and restaurant and then went to the winery.

Gideon Owen winery used to be an old monastery and the building is amazing.  It was pretty busy and was hosting a wedding on one side.  We went to the bar side and found a spot at the bar.  We had two flights and people watched which was a good time.  We passed on dinner there as they were so busy.  The wood fired pizza looked great though.  We came back home, started a fire and cooked dinner.

Yesterday we shopped and found some supplies at a farm stand, cheese and meat store and explored more.  We put some Becco’s in the crockpot so dinner would be ready when we got back.  We headed east to Lakeshore and Marblehead.  The views over there are nice.  Tons of boats and freighters near Sandusky Harbor.  You could also see Cedar Point, so close, but so far away.  I climbed the Marblehead Lighthouse which has been in operation for 199 years.  The stairs were about 140 years old and were showing their age.  The lighthouse park is really cool and the short climb is worth it for the view.

We ended our exploring at Rocky Point Winery which is an old school house turned into tasting room and Inn.  Their outside space is great and the live music was good too.  I also snuck in a bike ride when we got back.
