Put In Bay, Ohio

Yesterday we took a drive over to Catawba and parked the truck.  We grabbed our bikes and helmets and headed for Miller’s Ferry to Put In Bay.  Their website has a bunch of coupons so it was $37 round trip for two adults with bikes.  The ride to the island was a little over 20 minutes and was kind of choppy with a 4-6’ west swell.

We got off on the island and biked our way to the main town. The first stop was the Perry Peace Memorial.  (The elevator to the observatory was closed for the season.)  It is an impressive structure and a tribute to the war of 1812.  A decisive battle was fought on Lake Erie between the US and British.  There are three officers from each side of the conflict buried under the monument.  There was also an informative movie in the visitor center.

After the Perry Memorial, we continued to bike the island and parked by the marina to explore on foot.  We found a winery that had some great local wines, checked out a few shops and bikes to The Goat, Soup and Whiskey for lunch.  A local suggested the Perch tacos and they did not disappoint.

After lunch we pedaled back into town and visited The Keys. We had a drink on the water and split a piece of Key Lime Pie.  It didn’t meet our Florida Keys standards but it was alright.  We then bike the other side of the island on the way back and came home to an empty campground.  It appears that summer is over.  We cleaned up, meal prepped and did some laundry.  We are headed for 5-6 days of Boondocking.
