Thousand Islands NY

On Monday we left our hosts between 10-11.  We were chatting in their driveway, which is across the street from the trailer.  I could hear the dogs barking and then saw them running around the trailer looking for us.  The screen door had been shut and I imagined it was destroyed.

I ran across the street to corral them and found one of them had slid the door open with their head.  I think Duncan was the Houdini.  We got them into the truck and headed to the RV center.  Our hosts had recommended Wilkins RV in Bath, NY which was just down the Highway from them.

We pulled in and no one was at the Dump Station.  We had made it 6 nights on our tanks.  I thought it was pretty impressive.  The dump station was clean, they allowed us to throw away our garbage, refill fresh water and get propane.  Everything was free…except the propane.  We also met some nice people who were picking up a new Grand Design while we were there.  If you need to stop to dump or anything else RV, stop at Wilkins in Bath.

We left Bath and took basically all country roads to get to Alexandria Bay.  The last hour was on I-81.  It was a nice drive through some beautiful country.  The colors are starting to change.  We got in later in the afternoon and got set up.  The winery closes at six so we snuck over for a tasting.  We met another couple who was staying and chatted with them for a while.  They’ve been on the road from FL for a few months and we’ll probably see them when we get down there.

Yesterday we had to run down to Watertown, near Fort Drum, home of the10th Mountain Division.  I’ve checked with some friends who were in the Army and they confirmed there are no mountains here.  We had to get some dog food, so some other shopping and regroup a bit.  We should’ve pushed it and done a boat tour.  We ended up hanging out in Clayton and had lunch at the Wood Boat Brewery.  It was OK, but expensive.  We also visited Coyote Moon winery on our way back to the trailer.

We chatted with our neighbors for a few hours and battened down the hatches for the storm that was several hours late.  It did arrive at about 0100 with very high winds, followed by thunderstorms at 0230.  We’ll have to come back and explore another time.
