Trapp Lodge and Rec Path
Yesterday we went into Stowe and got the bikes out. My quick fix on the bike pump in Marquette actually didn’t work. The start of the bike path had a great bike station and I was able to get our tires taken care of.
The Stowe Rec Path is a great 5.25 mile paved path that heads up towards Stowe Mtn. The trail crosses 10 bridges and follows a nice clear mountain stream. I think it’s a few weeks off for full fall colors. The ride up was great and then we looked at checking out the Trapp Lodge. This is the lodge and area from The Sound of Music.
The ride became a little difficult from the Rec path up to the lodge. The first 1/3 of a mile or so was flat, then it was all up hill. I got worked over by three people on E bikes and averaged 4-ish mph on the climb. At one point, my right leg started to cramp and I ended up hobbling a hundred yards or so. The climb was worth it as the area up by the lodge is beautiful and will be even better in a few weeks.
The ride down was a lot easier and pretty much only required braking. We stopped at Von Trapp brewing and had a cider and pretzels before totally getting down the hill. After the ride, we supported a few small farms and came home to make burgers. After a campfire, I headed to the hot tub and had it to myself. It was just what the Dr ordered after the climb.
