Back to Freeport
Yesterday we cruised some backroads near the campground. The Freeport/Durham KOA has been a great spot to hang out for 5 nights. It’s close enough to quite a few places, but it’s also off the beaten path and pretty quiet. We’ve basically had our row to ourselves since Sunday.
Our first stop was at Bradbury Mtn State Park. $6 per person entry fee for out of state folks. It was a short hike to the top up the summit trail and we were treated to a great view. The colors are turning in “pockets” this close to the ocean. I’ll be curious to see how things are inland. There are also mushrooms everywhere around here. I wish I knew more about foraging for them, I.e. what will kill you and what ones you can eat. There are also a ton of Mtn Bike trails at the park.
After our hike we headed towards town, the long way. We stopped at a farm stand and grabbed some fresh raspberries. They were really good so we ended up getting two containers. I almost finished mine before town. We stopped at Garmin and went in to see Eartha. It’s a 42’ diameter replica of the earth. 1” equals 16 miles. It spins inside the foyer to the building and is pretty cool.
We then wandered around Freeport for a bit. We saw a Prevost Bus, Class A towing an F150 with the alarm going off. It was hilarious, at first I thought a tour bus pissed someone off. I’m curious what the driver thought. Did I do something wrong, did I cut someone off? Anyway, they kept driving. We wonder how far they went before figuring it out. We also stopped at Wicked Whoopie and picked up a pie. They were allegedly created in New England. It was pretty good, I snagged a Red Velvet. Quite the sugar rush.
We came back pretty early and had another nice fire. This time we had Pine and it burned hot and fast. Off to the north today.
