Blustery in Boone
Yesterday was cold and breezy with a bit of drizzle and mist through the day. The sun tried to make an appearance, but lost the battle multiple times. We weren’t in a rush to leave so we just hung out and drank a lot of coffee. We’ll, I drank a lot of coffee.
We took a drive up to Blowing Rock which is quite a bit slower in pace. The weather was a little sportier at 43*, windy and raining harder than back in Boone. We turned around and headed back to Boone. We found diesel at $3.45 and topped our tank off.
Lost Province was open so it was time to get some wood fired wings. Katy had the Tomato Soup. While eating at the bar, a young guy came and sat by us. He got carded and I saw he was from Oregon. We started talking and learned he is originally from Boone, but lives in Bend, over by St Charles. Small world, we lived over that way when we first moved to Bend.
We took the long way back to the campground and hit quite a few backroads to include some gravel. It was a beautiful drive and we even saw a small whitetail buck. We walked the kids a few laps when we got back and then hung out. The weather started to cool quickly and the wind really kicked up. It got back up to gusts of 50. We saw a National Park goals checklist and found we’ve been to 24 of 61…almost there.
