Boston Mass

Yesterday we caught the Salem Ferry into Boston.  What a nice way to get into the city.  The ride was about 50 minutes and we met some nice people on the boat, including another full time RVer and her dog.

We got off the boat at Long Wharf and started walking towards the Freedom Trail.  We tried to get into a walking tour, but the good ones were sold out.  A quick stop at a tourist shop for stickers and we were on our way.  Our first historic stop was Faneuil Hall, the Great Hall and the Ancient Artillery Hall.  It was a neat stop, knowing some of the things that happened there.

We wandered around and into the Old Town Hall, the site of the Boston Massacre.  The inside of the building is being renovated.  After that we had a quick lunch at Sam Adam’s Tap House.  We then followed the Freedom Trail north through little Italy, stopping at Mike’s Pastry for dessert.  Traditional and limoncello cannoli and a piece of Boston cream pie for after dinner.

We passed Paul Revere’s house, Old North Church and Copp Hill Cemetery.  We stopped at a small park and had a bit of our cannoli.  They were good, what a sugar rush.  It was a bit of a walk over to Old Ironsides from Copp Hill.  We were able to enter the park, which is a Navy Yard and had to go through security.  I had my pocket knife and had to show Mil/LE ID to get in with it.

It was so cool getting on and in the USS Constitution.  The ship is staffed with US Navy Personnel.  It is meticulously kept and I suggest everyone come and give it a look.  We were able to get down two levels.  I may have taken 100 photos all day yesterday.

We followed the trail back and stopped at The Bell in Hand Tavern, which is the oldest continuously operating tavern in the US.  Started in 1795, it has not closed.  We then slowly made our way to the boat for the ride back.  We were treated to a nice skyline and sunset.  Great day and we have to come back because there is so much to see and do.
