Cadillac Mountain
After several attempts to get tickets for Cadillac Mtn, I was finally able to get them for yesterday morning. The sunrise tickets are released two days in advance at 1000 and the 102 tickets are gone in less than two minutes. I had some failed attempts prior to getting these.
Yesterday we got up at 0400 and drove from Belfast up to Cadillac Mountain. It was nearly and hour and a half drive to get there and they had opened the gates at 0500. We were
about the 90th vehicle to get there. We put the dogs in the back of the truck and grabbed our coffees and headed over to the viewpoint. I should mention, Katy was a trooper, this was my idea with the early wake up and drive.
We found our spot with the couple hundred people who were already there. Based on the pre colors of the sky, I knew it was going to be good. There was also some fog rolling through the islands around Bar Harbor. I took a ton of pictures in all directions and thought it was really cool to be in the place where the sun first touches the continental US. This fact is only true from October to March. Thanks to Finding Our Someday for sharing this with everyone on YouTube.
We headed off the mountain and found breakfast at Paddy’s in Bar Harbor. It was really good, but the side of bacon (2 strips) for $5 was not worth it. Katy enjoyed the lobster Benedict and I had Irish Toast. We filled the diesel and then headed back into the park to see a few things. The sand beach and Beehive area was overflowing with people and cars and it was only 8:30. We were able to check out Thunderhole and Jordan Pond was also overflowing.
We decided to come back to the rig. Katy and the dogs took a quick nap and I walked the beach for glass and went to the grocery store. We then went back into Belfast and spent some time near the water. We split a blackened haddock sandwich and then came back to the rig. We had a nice fire and made some dinner. All in all, it was a great day.
