Four State Day

Yesterday we got on the road at about 9:30 and headed south to Costco in Danvers Mass.  We picked up a few things, stowed them in Sis and hit the road.  We passed through Massachusetts, Rhode Island and then into Connecticut.  I had a guy pass us, and then closely cut us off.  I gave him a thumbs up and he flipped me off.  I didn’t catch if he had Massachusetts plates or not.

We stopped in Mystic CT, Stonington and Groton are the larger towns nearby.  We quickly realized our rig is way too big for most of the side roads in the area and town was packed. We ran into a nice FedEx driver who pulled out of the way for us on a road that should’ve been one way only.  We made our way to downtown and Mystic Pizza.  There was not a snowballs chance in hell we would be able to park anywhere down there so we talked to some locals and they pointed us in the right direction.  We then found a residential area to the west and up the hill from town to park in.  We let the dogs out to pee and then put them in the trailer.

We walked downtown and had some Mystic Pizza.  It was pretty good, in between thin crust and pan crust.  After lunch we walked around town for a few and then back up to the rig. We let the pups out again and got back on the road.  Google for some god awful reason took us directly through New Haven and past Yale.  Once we got out of town it wasn’t too bad, but the 45 minutes navigating town was a pain in the butt.  The drive turned out to be really pretty along a river where the men of Yale were rowing crew.

We also passed through Newtown and Sandy Hook.  It’s a beautiful area and made me think back to my work days and what occurred there.  We arrived at our Boondockers Welcome spot and our hosts were very gracious.  They provided a level spot with electric and also invited us up to their fire pit for wine.  We even had the dogs offline for a little run on their property.  We met them at 7 and stayed out back chatting until after 10.  They have traveled all over the country and he just retired from his electrical business a month ago at the age of 80.
