Lincoln’s Birthplace (From June)

(Not sure how this ended up on drafts and I didn’t notice).    Yesterday we swung by Abe Lincoln’s Birthplace.  Sinking Springs Farm.  His dad paid $200 for 300 acres.  They left the farm and moved about 10 miles north to Knob Creek when Abe was about 3, due to property disputes.

The grounds are very nice and there is a short informational video in the visitor center.  We walked the property and visited the cabin which may or may not be where Abe was born.

There are 4 sets of 14 steps, 56 in total to get up to the memorial.  One step for every year Abe was alive.  We saw the site of the Boundary Oak and walked one side of the property.  We liked this stop.  We were then going to head up to Knob Creek to check out Abe’s boyhood home but learned it was closed.  Maybe today or tomorrow.

We came back to the campground and had a pool afternoon.  It was a pretty relaxing day and we made burger bowls on the Blackstone.  The evening temp was great and we sat out watching the lightning bugs until about 10.
