Walking Philly
Yesterday we headed into Philadelphia to take a walking tour. We signed up for the Old City walking tour. Secure parking was hard to find as we are 8’5” with the Yakima box on the truck. After making a few laps, we parked by the US Mint and Christ Church Cemetery. It’s two hour max parking, but you can re-up it every two hours. Makes no sense to me.
We grabbed some coffee and waited for our tour. Our guide was late, checked everyone in and off we went. We did see some cool places and did learn some history but our tour was not worth the $71 for the two of us. I think an app could’ve done just as well. We visited the Betsy Ross house, Christ Church, the first post office, Ben Franklins home, Carpenter Hall and then I missed the last two stops trying to renew our parking. Long story with our tour guide…
After the tour, we had some Phillys at Old City Pizza. They were pretty good and right by the truck. After lunch we visited the cemetery and then went to the Liberty Bell. It was free to get in and we had to go separately. My pocketknife was not allowed in the building, even with credentials. Seems these National Park sites have different rules depending on where you are.
While Katy went through, I talked with a Philly Cop who is a few months from retirement. He’s planning on heading to Florida for the winter as he said he’s done with winter. One thing I’ve noticed with east coast officers, not many of them wear vests. It’s mind blowing to me, that doesn’t happen often on the west coast.
We got back around 4:30 and did some trip planning for our last two weeks. We put the truck back together and had leftovers. Overall it was a good day.
